They continuously invest in research and collaborative innovation to provide customers and society with operational and technological foresight. They also provide classification, technical assurance, software and independent expert advisory services to the maritime, oil & gas, power and renewables industries. DNV operates from more than 400 offices in more than 100 countries, and has around 11,600 employees.
“The 20 years of partnership with HOOPS has helped DNV deliver high-performance 3D visualization at all times. In the ongoing transition to cloud-based services, HOOPS has played a key role in providing unique 3D technology for the Web.”
Erik Ian von Hall, Head of Structure Ecosystem, DNV
DNV’s Sesam software package is recognized as one the most advanced and comprehensive software systems for structural and hydrodynamic analysis available to the offshore and maritime industry.
In 1999, DNV Software and CEETRON AS (Now HOOPS) started a joint collaboration to develop a customized post-processor for Sesam based on CEETRON’s CAE (now HOOPS Envision) visualization components. The objective was to offer to the market a high-performance general-purpose model and results visualization program for animation and presentation of results from various hydrodynamic- and static/dynamic structural analyses.
The new software was named Sesam Xtract and replaced Sesam Viewer and Sesam Postfem. The first GA release took place in September 2000 and the product has since been updated on a yearly basis and is the main desktop visualization application in the Sesam suite.
In 2015, DNV entered into a new joint R&D project with what was then CEETRON AS, Migris AS and Transvalor S.A. to develop the next generation of web-based visualization technologies. The objective was to enable 3D visualization in web and cloud environments with performance and user experience comparable to desktop technologies. The main outcome of the R&D project was the unique visualization technology denoted “Progressive 3D object streaming” which is now at the core of the HOOPS toolkit.
A new generation of cloud-based 3D visualization products and services based on the 3D object streaming technology was released by DNV in 2019. The application Sesam Insight is expected to improve efficiency and collaboration in offshore engineering projects by sharing and visualizing models and results.
The acquisition of CEETRON by Tech Soft 3D and later conjunction into the HOOPS product family saw the partnership with DNV evolve but remain as strong as ever. DNV continues to leverage the powerful capabilities of HOOPS products, and Tech Soft 3D is excited about many more years of working together.
