Core Value #3: We Value the People on our Team

I’m pretty sure that most companies have an official company statement that they care about their employees, so their employees think that they care about them.
That is, of course, until a round of layoffs come along! If I can get by my initial skepticism, my next emotion is that these “we care about our employees” statements are often are rooted in paternalism. “We (the management) care about our people (you underlings who need our care).”
That’s why we have a different twist on this core value. In our case the “we” is all of us here at Tech Soft 3D. For us, this statement means we place high value on the contributions of everyone on the team -- no matter their role -- and that we all care about one another.
• Out sick? I’ve got your back to finish that project or help that customer.
• Overloaded on a tight-deadline project? How can I help?
• Stumped with a programming problem? Let’s whiteboard it together.
• Did your job well? Kudos to you, no matter how high or low profile the task or project may have been.
• Think it’s not your job or the responsibility of another department? Well, you won’t last long here if that is your initial instinct.
• Think your contribution is somehow more vital that everyone else’s? Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Do we live 100% true to this core value every day and in every interaction? We wish we did, but of course we fall short of perfection. However, it’s a core value because we care about being this way as a company.
A corporation is not a machine. Actually, it’s more like a tribe, and the most successful tribes have people in specialized roles, all of whom play a vital role in the success of the tribe. In addition, everyone is always ready to drop what they are doing to help another tribe member in need. That’s the kind of tribe we all want to be a part of and that’s the kind of tribe we’re trying to create and maintain.
