Member of Technical Staff

Will's first computer was a ZX81, and he was very taken with it, teaching himself to write BASIC code and simple guessing games. After this the die was cast, and he progressed via a Sinclair QL, Ti68 calculator and the wonderful Tandy Model 100 to the IBM PC. By this point he was studying maths by day and writing games by night.

After graduating from the University of Durham, Will found a job in the CAD/CAM software industry working on OpenGL and early Direct3D hardware accelerated 3D graphics. He eventually changed tracks to enter the games industry, working for Particle Systems in the UK, where he led development teams on complex game projects for PC and consoles. He and his wife immigrated to New Zealand in 2004 in search of a better place to live.

Will now runs a successful software development consultancy with clients in both the games and traditional graphics industries and a track record in DirectX, Wii and PS3 game development. He started working with Tech Soft 3D in 2006 and is mainly involved with the development and optimization of the HOOPS DirectX 9 shader-based driver.

In his spare time, Will enjoys playing with his daughter, cooking, reading, wine, crosswords and traditional hobbies like board games and modelmaking as an antidote to all the computer time. But he still plays plenty of videogames and secretly wishes that he'd had a Spectrum, a C64, or an Amiga like the cool kids did back in the day.
