Trabvis Heppe

Travis Heppe
Member of Technical Staff

One of the two longest-serving engineers at TS3D, Travis' primary role is as a developer of new features for the HOOPS 3d Graphics System and the HOOPS Stream File Toolkit.

Travis has been responsible for a long list of the features that are now considered essential to many customers. You have Travis to thank for things like level-of-detail generation, collision detection, display lists, the quartz driver on osx, stream file compression and the stencil probe in MVO (for milling simulations) -- just to name a few. He has also optimized a wide variety of HOOPS functionality, in a few cases by one or more orders of magnitude. Wow!

When wearing his Technical Support Manager hat, Travis manages the engineers’ rotation, serves as a consultant to the support engineer and helps make sure no issues slip through the cracks. His mission as Support Czar is to ensure all new queries receive an email response within one business day. Let us know how he’s doing….

Prior to Tech Soft, Travis worked at Silicon Graphics (on the Octane 2 graphics system). He has a bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering from UC Davis, and a Master's degree in Computer Science from UC Santa Cruz. His thesis was on the topic of surface simplification (level of detail generation).

Though native to California, Travis has lived for 4 years in Turkey, 2 years in Spain and 1 year in Germany. He is fairly proficient with German, Spanish and Chinese. He lives in Alameda, California with his wife and two daughters. In off hours, he plays soccer whenever possible.

Of further note, Travis is personally responsible for our ping pong table being folded up and collecting dust after every member of the staff was completely disgusted at having lost to him.
